Murder at the Jewish Museum in DC
I’ve worked in the District of Columbia since 1994. I first applied for a position with the Library of Congress in 1980. I’ve loved the concept of the District of Columbia since 1969. DC is supposed to be an island adverse to politics, an ideological oasis, a place where people of different opinions can congregate to discuss the best way forward for the republic. Instead, it is a swamp where ideological differences escalate into polarization and division.
It is a place where dreams devolve - nightmares.
Two amazing young people working with the Israeli embassy were murdered in cold blood last night. Why? They were focused on peace. Tears filled my eyes multiple times today thinking of the incomparable hate and antisemitism that resulted in these murders.
I grew up in the Midwest, flyover country that is disdained by the alleged elites. People in flyover country are patriots, love America, believe in the Constitution, the idea that there are no handouts, that hardworking people deserve to keep what they earn, that there is no free lunch, that people who come here legally should share in the American Dream, that there have been episodes in our history that were horrible, but that overall, Americans believe in fairness, opportunity for all and that handouts cripple self determination.
The history of our country includes episodes of mistreatment of people of color, denigration of women, discrimination of immigrants from multiple countries, different ideologies, wars against native Americans, and disagreements over westward expansion. But, this is the history of the world. There has always been the realization that there are conquerors and conquered; winners and losers; success and failure, abundance and deprivation, assimilation and annihilation.
But, the polarization of the political minds, the hate fomented by elite universities, the antisemitism allowed to be exhibited by students at elite universities is unacceptable.
Two young people who represented the best of the best, who sought peaceful solutions, who looked for ways to help the people of Gaza, were murdered in cold blood in no small part because of the rhetoric spewed by coddled, undereducated, pampered, indoctrinated, unaware, ignorant, unethical, parochial, bubbled, self- important, ignorant, overindulged sycophants of the leftist ideological idiocy. Shame! The alleged ‘elite’ universities that allow this perpetration of prejudice, discrimination against anyone with whom they disagree, and tacitly approve the provocation of violence should lose all federal funding, all grants, all student subsidies, all tax benefits, and all rights to enroll students who are not US citizens. Starve them of foreign influence and opportunities for foreign governments to infiltrate spies into our universities. Just say NO!
I am horrified by the lack of critical thinking exhibited by these alleged scions of the elite.

The Washington Post | The Fall of a Once Great Newspaper
Democracy Dies in Darkness
This is the slogan The Washington Post began using in 2017, four years after Jeff Bezos purchased the failing publication for $250M. This once lauded newspaper no longer lives up to its reputation or its slogan.
WaPo, as once affectionately called, was first published in 1877 to support the Democrats. During various eras WaPo alternately supported Democrat or Republican views. It was not until Eugene Meyer purchased the paper in 1933 that WaPo begain to determine its place in history as a publication that supported non-ideological independent journalism. Under the leadership of his son-in-law, Philip Graham, followed by his widow, Katharine Graham, WaPo became a juggernaut of excellence and groundbreaking investigative reporting earning well-deserved awards.
Consider the publication in 1971 of excerpts of The Pentagon Papers and the subsequent investigative reporting by Woodward and Bernstein into Watergate. These are examples of how WaPo earned its reputation and prestige. WaPo and the New York Times set the standards for journalism excellence, which resulted in a generation of young, altruistic, reporters yearning to uncover political misdeeds and join the ranks of the Pulitzer Prize winners they admired.
But, WaPo has come full circle and is once again a shill for the Democrat party. There is not even a scintilla of effort to pretend otherwise. Although I’ve been an intermittent subscriber for decades, I’ve come to accept that it is no longer worth reading for another perspective or for the Friday weekend section.
This paper suffers from extreme Trump Derangement Syndrome. If one goes down the rabbit hole and reads the comments to articles, it is clear the moderators have no problem considering that threats against moderates and conservatives meets ‘community standards’. One poster today thought it was appropriate to wish all moderates and conservative thinkers ( regularly called Nazis, fascists, idiots, evil, MAGAts, racist, misogynistic, Hitler, authoritarian) death.
WaPo readers are unwilling to consider any opinion that does not fit a specific narrative. Every person who did not vote for Kamala Harris is thought a cretin and MAGA supporter and unworthy of breath. There is no concept of nuance, of varying degrees of political thought across the broad spectrum of far right to progressive left. Most Americans are somewhere in the middle between moderate left to moderate right. Most Americans want common sense government and eschew the extreme views of each party.
But, WaPo is seeming to focus its content towards the extremely leftist ideology, allows extremists to comment without moderation, and will continue to bleed readership.
Katharine Graham and Ben Bradlee must be rolling in their graves.

6 More Working Days Until Retirement
I’ve been on the insurance business since June 9, 1980. For some reason can’t recall, so took extra classes and graduated with my BA at the age of 20. I was a green, naive, unsophisticated trainee for the position of Claims Adjuster for Commercial Union Assurance Companies. I’d never heard of such a job; however, I was a liberal arts major, needed a job, and I was offered the position at a salary of $12,500 plus a company car. And what a car! A 1980 Ford Fairmont! To be fair, it was much nicer than the school bus yellow Ford Pinto with the exploding gas tank that I had been driving,
When I began that first adult job at the age of 20, I figured I would have to work for at least 45 years before I could retire,
The 45th Anniversary of my first day in insurance claims would be June 9, 2025. I’ll miss the 45th Anniversary by one month. I’m okay with that,
