Being True to Myself ~

I turned 66 last month. During my formative years it was instilled in me that life has its seasons and we, as women of a certain age, should accept the reality that youth has passed us b and sink slowly not the fashion world of Aunt Bea, Edith Bunker, and the Gilden Girls.

I refuse to accept this thesis as my lot in life.instead, I am trying to stay fit, be relevant and wear what p,eases me, even if it is a bodycon knit dress from AYR.

Instead of morphing into a stereotypical retiree, I am embracing new to me brands, exploring new styles and fabrics, trying different looks, expanding my opportunities and facing the next phases of life with fearlessness.

Yes, 66 year old me is rocking this bodycon dress from Ayr and feeling powerful, liberated, fabulous and ready to face whatever comes.

Fashion is the armor we use to defend against stereotypes, subjugation, oppression, lack of agency and being dismissed as a has been.

I will survive, thrive, celebrate life and live each day, hour, day, year and coming decade to the fullest.

As Helen Reddy once sang, I am woman hear me roar! I will not fade quietly into the background. Being true to myself requires me to embrace aging without apologies and with gusto!
