Distractions With Home Renovations & My Recalcitrant Muse~
The home renovations began on May 10th and my muse took a hike. The chaos, disruption, constant presence of contractors, loss of personal space, invasion of privacy, drywall dust, noise, disruption of routine, delays, miscalculations, and the psychological trauma of our cats resulted in writers block. I lost interest in my Blog, gardening, photography, sewing, landscaping, tending my tomatoes, wearing makeup, and venturing anyplace but yoga and Home Depot. We’ve jokingly with just a modicum of affection referred to this as the summer of our discontent – a temporary condition that we anticipate will result in a personal haven.
Then on July 1st it was announced that a competitor is acquiring my employer. More uncertainty, mental distraction, loss of focus, cause for reflection.
I’ve tried to focus on my blessings, good fortune, talents, delightful family, dedicated spouse, and abundance. There are days where it is difficult to concentrate. But I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, the pot of gold at the bottom of the rainbow, the confidence that whatever happens with my job I will thrive and the knowledge that in a few short weeks we will once again have a functional kitchen.
So I’m trying to tempt my muse to return and inspire me to write again. Maybe I just needed a break after two years and 400 posts. Calliope come back to me! I’m ready to begin anew.
