Before I found Sephora it would never have occurred to
me to buy makeup online. My complexion is fair and my skin is sensitive. It
always seemed prudent to play at the makeup counter in a department store –
even though more often than not the consultant made me look like a reject from
“The Mikado”.
Years of experience and trial and error have afforded
me the bravery to experiment with Sephora products online. First and foremost –
Sephora has an easy return policy. Shipping is free with a $50 purchase.
And….there are at least 3 sample products with each shipment! The reviews offered by shoppers are
invaluable as well. Being the conservative soul that I am, I generally wait
until several others have tried and reviewed a product before I will take the
plunge. I’ve found that the real users of the products give truthful,
insightful, and valuable assessments of the pros and cons of a particular
product and whether the cost to value is acceptable.
The range of products is amazing. From my early 20’s I’ve
loved makeup and trying different products. Today there are more options than
ever and I believe it is fun to experiment and try new products rather than
stay chained to a particular line. Sephora offers a range of brands that are
not available anywhere else. And when a treat is needed and funds are tight,
nothing makes for a pick me up like a new blush or lipstick.
I’ve purchased foundation, eyeliner, mascara,
moisturizer, eyebrow products, brushes, shower gel, blush, primer, eyeliner
pencils, eyeliner gel, concealer, anti aging lotion, retinol products, and eye
shadow.
To date, the Holy Grail of mascara is Dior Iconic. My
favorite cream blush is Makeup Forever HD. It looks bright and a little goes a
long way, but it is a buildable color.
The best powder blush I’ve found is Nars- but try a color other than
Orgasm. Most of the shades are fabulous.
The absolute best matte eye shadows are by Too Faced. The
matte collection is perfect for women of a certain age. That being said,
Lancome offers some lovely matte shades. It is challenging to try anything with
shine or pearlescent shades after the age of 49.
I love Clinique
lipsticks. The are inexpensive for a department store brand with good staying
power and the formula is creamy and moisturizing.
Currently, my
favorite foundation is Dior Diorskin Nude Foundation; although Stila offers a
nice back up. For travel, the Bobbi
Brown foundation stick is great. The coverage is good and it zooms through
airport security.
Makeup Forever Primer beats Smashbox to smitherines! Second
best – Too Faced. And Benefit Browzings is the absolute tops for people like me
with thin, nearly invisible brows. My
favorite toner is by DDF. And I like to alternate DDF glycolic cleaner with
Cetaphil, which is gentle and highly recommended. And the most effective overnight retinol
product I’ve tried that is not prescription strength is Glow by Dr. Brandt
Resurfacing Serum.
